Antidepressant Sinequan

Sinequan (Doxepin) or doxepin hydrochloride is a drug belonging to the class of the psychotherapeutic agents that are called as dibenzoxepin tricyclic compounds. They are basically tricyclic antidepressant drugs.

Mode of Action of Sinequan (Doxepin)

Sinequan (Doxepin) works by altering the chemicals present inside the brain. It balances the proportion of chemicals inside the brain.

Uses of Sinequan (Doxepin)

Sinequan (Doxepin) is used for the treatment of depression. It is also used for the treatment of anxiety that is associated with psychiatric conditions, alcoholism as well as manic- depressive issues. It helps in relieving tension.

It helps in improving mood as well as feeling of well being. It helps in sleeping better and also enhances the energy level.

How to Use Sinequan (Doxepin)

Sinequan (Doxepin) has to be taken orally. It should be taken one to three times a day or as advised by the physician. If the doctor has advised you to take Sinequan (Doxepin) once daily, you must take it at the bedtime so as to avoid daytime sleepiness. Take the drug dose as recommended by the doctor. The doctor will curate a dose for you as per your medical condition or according to your response to the treatment.

Side- effects of Sinequan (Doxepin)

There are several side- effects of Sinequan (Doxepin); some are mild while some are very serious. The mild side- effects of Sinequan (Doxepin) include:

• Feeling very tired
• Feeling drowsy
• Feeling dizzy
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Dry mouth
• Constipation
• Blurred vision
• Weight gain
• Ringing in the ears
• Increased sweating
• Swelling on breast in women as well as in men
• Decreased libido

The very severe side- effects of Sinequan (Doxepin) include:

• Allergic reaction. Allergic reactions are common but, very severe. They can manifest as hives, swelling on the face, difficulty in breathing, swelling on tongue, throat or lips. If this happens, you must consult your doctor as soon as possible. Allergic reaction is a medical emergency.
• Severe behavioural changes and mood swings
• Anxiety
• Trouble in falling asleep
• Aggressive, irritable, aggressive, hostile, impulsive behaviour
• Feeling restless or physically or mentally hyperactive
• Feeling very depressed
• Increased suicidal tendency or tendency to hurt self

If any of these things happen, you must consult your doctor as soon as possible. Also, do not delay visiting a doctor if you experience:

• Very fast heart rate
• Rashes on skin, severe tingling sensation, bruising, numbness, muscle weakness or pain
• Feeling of passing out
• Increased muscle movements of eyes, jaw, neck as well as tongue
• Tremors
• Hallucination, confusion, convulsions (seizures), unusual thoughts
• Very painful micturation or urinating very less than usual

Pregnancy and Breast- feeding

If needed, you can take this drug during pregnancy but, only after consulting your doctor. But, use is not recommended if you are a lactating mother. If you breast- feed your baby, you must not take this drug as it might cause side- effects.
